According to an old saying: If you cannot measure it, you cannot manage it. To this we add the following: If you cannot see it, you cannot manage it. Oversight responsibilities require visibility. We propose modeling as the solution: 1. Providing visibility enabling management oversight, 2. with special power in relationship to software development projects. In this, we will bring out the comprehensive roles modeling plays in software development as a tool for management, a tool with many different sides, including but not limited to: Model Driven Development, more than MDA (Model Driven Architecture), but UML modeling especially, UML as the unification of many languages for subject matter and problem domain experts. In other words, combining DSLs into one standard package to avoid the Babel of disparate languages used by very small groups.
