One of the hottest topics in Kubernetes land these days is Knative which is a platform on top of Kubernetes. It provides a set of building blocks to build, deploy and manage container-based applications and serverless workloads. This talk gives an overview of Knative and its subcomponents, which are based on custom resources and operators:
- Knative build brings the building aspect to Kubernetes. It adds an abstraction for building OCI image with various technologies like Kaniko, Buildpacks or OpenShift S2I directly from within a cluster.
- Knative serving provides primitives for serverless frameworks. It especially knows how to scale-to-zero and is used as building blocks in FaaS frameworks like TriggerMesh or Riff with more to come.
- Knative eventing is an eventing specification for managing CloudEvents, an emerging CNCF standard. It provides the API for event sources and sinks which are supported by technologies like Kafka or Camel-K.
This talk introduces Knative from a Java developers perspective, and we will a have a peek view on all of the goodness that Knative brings to the table, including live demos.
